Path of Stars: An Elvish Myth
The story goes that long ago, Kali emerged from the void into empty space. Born into this world, with the power to create... she shaped the Universe. First, came the Sun, and Isil, the Moon. Next, came the Earth. Kali smiled, and shaped the sky, forests, ground and mountains. With loving touch, she gouged valleys, smooth and rough. With a loving breath, came wind. And she wept at the beauty of her creation, so came water. It formed lakes, oceans, and ran into the cracks as rivers, streams and brooks.
But she was not done. She gave her children, the Gods a place amongst it all... each, their own kingdom to rule and preside over. And she created animals and monsters, both calm and fierce.
But in the realm of the stars... The God Lands, she created the Elves.
The first Sentient beings, and only ones born in Kali's realm, they alone knew the true essence that was the Earth Goddess.
Kali smiled upon her children, she loved them so. But she had created them to dwell upon the Earth, live under the open sky and trees.
So, she created a path for them to Earth. But it was dark, and she knew the elves would not be able to find their way alone...
Kali crafted the stars, to light their way. They embraced their mother, thanking her for this gift, and departed.
The road was long, but their hearts were light, as they smiled and thought of the home Kali had crafted for them. Finally, they reached the Earth, and they looked back one last time, to gaze along the vast path they had taken...
But they could not find it.
Stricken with grief, the eldest cast themselves upon the ground, calling out to Kali to lift the veil that had swept across their minds. Amil! They called. Mother!
But they had no reply. The eldest of the elves stayed at the point where they entered this world. They sat together, meditating, searching their memory for the way home... but it was to no avail. In a final desperate attempt, they cast their spirits into the void, expanding their mind into the depths of the Universe using astral projection, scouring the vast planes of space for the way back to the God Lands.
Some of the elves scattered and departed, destined to sire the many races of elves that exist today, but many stayed on, to look after the elders, frozen in their eternal struggle to find the way home. Eventually, with their spirits having been disjointed from their bodies for so long, their mortal forms began to fade... and eventually, they became solid crystal statues, both alive and undead.
In mourning, the remaining elves, their children, built a temple of living tree and carefully crafted stone around the frozen elders, which they heavily guarded.
To this day, the monument stands, both temple and observatory, for the elves that remained, the enEllie did not forget how they came here, nor did they forget the sacrifice of the ones who came before... the eldest of the elves.
It is said that the crystalline statues are sources of great power, indestructible by any natural force. They act as amplifiers of psychic and astral energy, and the elves still go there to meditate... let their minds free, to continue the quest that was the downfall of their ancestors... to find the elenvanda... road of the stars.
