Of the Gods and Xaria: Eldrig

{1.220.20 Flesh Time, Post-Quickening}

A potentially scandalous revelation has floundered its way into my grasp, and I am loathe to let go. However, one must always keep in mind the motives and mental state of the source. Elanthius, the source, will be held to this Ockham's razor of sorts. Now, we come to the second obstacle : the elusive nature of objectivity. Save Kali, no source may claim objective knowledge of the unilateral truth. However, since this mortal academic is not given the luxury of such objectivity, he must strive to achieve as much clarity as possible within the webs of significance of culture and meaning. Below lies his my attempt.

The tale, as told by Elanthius :

"Back in the beginnings of time when the world was young and everything was strange and new Kali walked upon Uarth. At first she walked with the humans and the elves and the dwarves, and the others, and taught them many wise things. Some of which they forgot, and some of which they remembered. She began to withdraw from her creation, seeing as it was complete.

However, her half sister Valtera would not let her sister's creation lie unmolested. She coveted the world but could not take it for it was guarded by Kali. In fact, at that time Valtera could not even enter the world and so, as is so often the case, she to yearn for what she could not have. And so she plotted and schemed be befits one of chaotic nature. So she began to craft three demons that would be her avatars and perform her bidding. She took the silver of the stars and heated it in the fires of the sun. She molded and formed the demons and then when they perfectly formed she cooled them in the oceans of the night sky. She taught them many things. She taught them of hate, of chaos and of destruction. And she sent them to the world to bring fear and terror into the peoples of the world. And so it was that the three demons of Valtera walked upon the land. Golgat the Plague Bringer who could cause a man to rot away in a matter of minutes, by just looking him in the eye. Soltark the Soul Harvester who gathered the souls of the dead people and fed upon them, strengthening his own power as he did so. And Nolat the Child Eater who it is said could steal into a man's house and devour his offspring in the bat of an eyelid. He was the weakest of the original three but the most feared. Haven't you ever heard a mother say to her child, "Now go to bed or Nolat will eat you for supper?"

And so they roamed across the land killing and slaying and feasting as they went. There was much fear and great movements of people as panic spread throughout the land. At that time all the peoples lived together as one. Remember the hugging and so forth. But in fear of their lives the Elves gathered together their people and moved to the forests, seeking to escape from the terror of The Three. And the dwarves moved to the mountains, where they built fortresses of stone that none would be able to bring down. Anyway, there was much fleeing and dying and suchlike. Kali was much like the Immortals of nowadays in the respect that she would vanish for long periods of time.

And so it went for several years that Kali did not notice what was happening to her creation. Eventually, she awoke from her slumber and did see what her evil half-sister had done and so she began to craft. A warrior of the finest kind that could stand against The Three and defeat them in mortal battle. And on this day Indus was born. Valtera spotted the danger, of course, and so set about quicky crafting two more demons. Giliot the Bladed One, crafted from the slivers of silver metal left over from the other three. He was a mismatched beast, slightly awkward, but deadly nonetheless. Valtera hoped that his body would be able to cut through the invincible armour that Kali had given to Indus. And then one more was created, Kestet, the Seductress. From the very blood of Valtera herself did she spring. A child of the Gods and almost as powerful as one. Her ability to controls the minds of those around her was legendary and men spoke of her in hushed whispers. For it was said that death by her hands would not be swift and would not be painless. But that she would drag out the torture to an endless eternity of suffering in her hand she held a blade. And the weapon of an almost god is an almost godlike weapon. The Soulblade of Kestet, the Mind Eater, Xaria the Blood Leech simply Render, this blade went by many names and all of them were appropriate. To glance upon it would mean certain death. She wielded the blade with great skill and none could stand in her way. Anyway, I won't bore you with the details. But needless to say Indus defeated The Five. Through luck more than judgement some might say. And he locked each of The Five in an inescapable prison where they were to stay for all eternity. Kali forbade him from destroying them you see, for all life to her was sacred.

But the Soulblade was taken from Kestet and locked in a secret place where no man may find it. It is said that the very soul of Kestet resides in that blade. The blade holds mysterious powers. And yearns to be wielded, it seeks glory and destruction. And will call out to people from time to time in an effort to seduce them into grasping its hilt. Beware however, for the blade has designs of its own and will attempt to control one's very being. Turning your soul black and dark and evil. The blade will not stay for long with any one owner. For it seeks to corrupt as many as possible. No getting any funny ideas. If you hear the call of Xaria be sure you know what you are hearing. That is the sound of DEATH! Many foolish people have taken the blade in their hands only to find their souls were devoured in seconds. But some say that it has the power to be any kind of weapon its owner desires. That could be just a rumour though. For it is known that Kestet wielded it as a two handed blade."

An analysis will be done in following entries. Also, several interesting contradictions with the current body of lore have been noted. These questions will not go unasked. For it is the great historian who asks the right questions, rather then answers them.
