The air of the bell tower was stale, cold and smelt of bats. Along the floor the evidence of bats grew stronger with the large amount of bat guano littered around on it. Petty dusted himself down, straightening off his hair then looked about the room. Bats’ high squeals rang around the room. But now the bats seemed to be all gone, even Creppy had faded off to where ever she goes to. Out the opening in the belfry Petty scratched his head to see, woodland as far as the eye can see, though he could have sworn he hadn’t passed woodland… but there it is.

Now, where am I and where is the exit?

Shaking off an unsettling feeling, Petty began walking across the room and noticing a trap door, bent down to open it as a feeling of unease, of being watched struck him. Glancing up to the top of the bell tower, Petty noticed a huge bat, even compared to Crepusculum aliger it was huge. Petty found his vision fail him as he looked at the bat.

Phantom bat? Had to be, why else would my eyes cause me problems? Looks old, but Phantom bats don’t age, do they?

Then it was gone, just a pair of eyes giving away that it was still there.

Unconcerned about the bat, as big as it was, Petty pulled on the trap door he had found. With surprising ease it opened up to a set of spiraling stars. Jumping down, Petty landed with an elegance only someone of his training could master, before slowly descending the stairs.

The Stairs of the bell tower laid thick in dust, apparent to Petty it wasn’t put to much use. Who knows, he thought, this place could be empty. Reaching the bottom of the stairs, Petty stood at the stair well, in front of him a door. Turning the handle it became apparent that it was locked. Sighing Petty removed two prods of metal from his belt and inserted them into the lock, fiddling about in attempts to unlock the door.

Door unlocking was never Petty’s strong point, time pasted and Petty finally unlocked the door with a lot more noise then he would have liked, but the door was opened.

Petty turned the handle watching as the door creaked open, revealing a large open space. Stepping into the room Petty slowly took it in. The room was dark, from it there were two exits. Judging by what Petty had saw of this place, one exit would be to the outside of whatever laid outside this place. Dust was heavy here too as in the stairs, and a picture hung from the west wall, also heavy in dust. The floor held the evidence of what Petty was almost certain of; the only occupants of this place other than bats were rats. Continuing his arc a figure caught his attention squatting on a far table. Petty stood silently appraising the figure.

Short, a dwarf? No, too small for a dwarf..armed…hmm..a sickle!? Petty crossed his arms and straightened himself up. The creature was armed, he knew that, but their intentions were unknown. Whatever they were Petty was confident he could handle it, it was only small and stared at him with small black piecing eyes and Petty returned the gaze with curiosity shining in his own cold icy blue eyes.

Karli observed the new arrival with great apprehension from her perch upon the desk. She had just barely happened across this place the day she decided to make it her reclusive safe spot and instead of the sea of intelligent creepy crawlies she had been expecting to flood out from behind that door, before her stood a most unnatural intruder.

Sizing the man up, his gait and apparent heritage spoke of both speed and agility. Their relaxed nature gave her pause as to the effectiveness of those weapons both seen and unseen upon the man. Taking that moment to scan the area like buzzard protecting it's meal, she confirmed that he was alone, before slowly standing from her crouch.

Pulling herself slowly to her full three feet upon the desk, she spun the sickle non-chalantly in her hand, readying herself for any sudden movements from the dark man.

React…do something, anything, just don’t just stand there

Petty was already growing tired of the staring match. The creature was apparently ready to defend its self. Petty was not one to attack but he would have fun testing it, though the sickle it was armed with was small, Petty knew the damage something small could do. Petty himself used blades not all that large, but he was an assassin, he didn’t need brute force of a large weapon to inflict damage, he could kill with a single blow.

Lets see what you will do…

With speed Petty parted his arms, flicked his wrists to his sides, and each hand contained a blackened concealed blade removed them their wrist sheaths under Petty’s sleeves.

Karli felt the edge of her wings prickle from beneath her cloak as the intruder made their first movement. As soon as Karli realized her was about to conjure either steel or magic, she immediately launched herself off the desktop backwards, landing on her feet with the hefty piece of furniture between herself and this seeming threat.

Taking a defensive stance again, shield before her side and sickle displayed before her face, Karli snorted from behind her robbers mask most indignantly, spreading her wings beneath her cloak to false her bulk a fair few inches.

"Why have you come here?" she whispered, full well knowing the airiness and vacancies about the room would well carry her words to ears nearly as large as her own.

Petty watched the creature with interest and let a smile slightly creep in with the pleasure of a reaction from it.
