Holidays: by Juneberry

Juneberry stretched and lay back down on the long chair. She'd already been on holiday for what seemed like months - visiting the strange world known as "The Other World". It was a bizarre and sometimes scary place. No magic, no ogres or trolls or dwarves. Just humans. As she lay back, she closed her eyes and pictured her beloved Cosrin, with the town of Moorgate she had come to call home.

She thought of her Guild, hoping that things were going ok with it. And she wondered whether the pirate Artemisia had been captured yet. Then she thought of a few people she considered to be friends, and her expression softened. Sweetie's, Kestral's, Hunthor's, Kolvos', Khiara's faces all faded into view, along with Nearis and Eyedol and Vaash and a few others.

Giving a small sigh, she reached out for a glass of the strange brew they called Carlsberg in these lands. It was not quite as nice as some of the ales and wines to be had in Cosrin, but it was not so bad once you got used to it. It certainly made things seem a little better. Maybe it was time she thought about returning home. Or maybe she'd spend a few more weeks relaxing here. The weather, after all, was beautiful - sunny and warm. Just a few more weeks .....

Juneberry studied the items that lay around her. Several souvineers from her holiday, including one of those funny duck things that you hang on the wall and look like they are flying up towards the ceiling.

She chuckled and gave a little hop. This was her last evening in this tavern. Tomorrow morning she would start her trek back to her home, in Cosrin. The "other world" was becoming tiresome and she could not wait to return to the Lands.

The journey would take roughly two months in Cosrin time, and Juneberry packed carefully, discarding anything that would not aid her in her journey - no need for dead weight!

Once her packing was finished, she was due to partake of a final meal in the tavern's rather nice restaurant, along with a few friends she had made. Dressed in her finest dress and sparkling necklace, she smiled and made her way downstairs, ready for a final party.

Juneberry stood and frowned at the man. He was clutching a handful of wires and cables and looked completely confused, muttering to himself "it should work. No reason for it not to ... lets try this..." as he poked and prodded the strange looking machine in front of him.

"What seems to be the problem? I thought you said it was a simple thing, to create this portal? It's been over a month now." Juneberry watched as the man muttered again about patience and understanding.

She looked at the machine, shrugging her shoulders at it's complexity. There was nothing like it in Cosrin, so she felt rather helpless. She couldn't even begin to make head nor tail of how it worked. She assumed it was magic, rather like things the mages created occassionally.

Looking down at her bag, now rather empty of things since she'd eaten most of the food on her journey home, she gave it a kick. A long, well cared for bow fell out and onto the floor. The man gave it a nervous glace, and started frantically pushing bits of cable around in the machine. "I'm trying!" he said, sounding rather more worried than before.

Juneberry nodded her head and returned to the chair she had been sitting in before. Settling herself into it once again, she carried on watching the man, trying to understand what he was doing. At this rate, she thought to herself, there'd be no-one left in Moorgate who remembered her!

"Ok I promise it won't be much longer", the man spoke suddenly. "Even if it kills me, I'll sort this portal out for you ..." and gritting his teeth he made another poke at the machine....
